Timmins Day by Danny
My sister and Aunt lives in Timmins, Shania's home town. They had been telling me about this hot singer for years saying that she will be a star. I never did get the chance to see her early in her career so I had no idea how right they were. After hearing Shania's first album I liked her, she was beautiful and talented. But, after hearing her 2nd album I was hooked. My Sister had underestimated this Lady. I went to Timmins for Shania Twain Day because my sister had gotten tickets to a lunchen and would probally get close enough to get a good picture. They organizing committee had so many requests to this event that they had to draw tickets to give people the chance to buy tickets. All proceeds went to the local school band. The day started with a presentation of the Key To The City. It was a rainy morning - a real downpour. This was a rather touching moment for Shania. She was overcome with emotions to see about a thousand people show up in this weather to see her, someone from the same little town. She knew personally most of these people, or their families. Then came the Lunch. Again a full crowd, and the rain was even worst. She was very gracious, but before any presentations could take place she had to acknowledge her family: Hugs all around. She was presented with native indian souvenirs. She was speechless.
After this, she made her way through the crowd. She stopped to have pictures taken or to just shake hands with anyone who was nearby. I was able to reach her finally and actually shook hands and told her that we had driven eight hours just to meet her. Shania said "Thank you". Unbelievable. That afternoon there was a party in the park in which people were able to get autographs. During this time someone arranged to have everyone sing Happy Birthday to her. (August 28). In return, she also sang Happy Birthday back. This was a gesture to Timmins and all it's people. I had shivers going down my spine. It had never been sung so good before - I have it on Video!!
Needless to say, It was a trip which I will never forget. I have told many people that she is an incredible person, genuine, and naturally beautiful. They always think that I am starstruck, but each time I speak to someone who has also met her, they confirm it. She is real. She is Shania.
