Twain's Land Battle With New Zealand Officials

Shania Twain plans to fight countryside access laws in New Zealand - where she is planning to purchase a 42,000-acre sheep farm.

The "Come on Over" singer, 38, and husband Robert 'Mutt' Lange want to buy the property at the country's Wanaka area - on condition a new hiking trial is introduced to give hikers access to the neighboring lands instead of their desired Motatapu Station.

However neighbors Don and Vicky McRae say they were "totally shocked" by the plan to use their land.

Twain explains, "We just have to have boundaries in order to keep some normalcy in our lives."

"We just sort of decided - especially with me being in the spotlight so much - that I would associate myself with cameras and with the spotlight when it's related to my music and when it's not, then I won't be there."

In New Zealand, land access is a contentious issue.

Finance minister Michael Cullen and other ministers who must approve the deal, said last month that it would not go through unless public access to the property was maintained.
